At the heart of the Gold Coast, Broadbeach and adjoining Broadbeach Waters are drawcards for holidaymakers and locals alike. With a beautiful coastline, abundant dining options, buzzing nightlife and excellent shopping in an area of a few city blocks, Broadbeach has something for everyone. The golden sand beaches are among Australia’s finest and parks with playgrounds and barbecue facilities are numerous.

Broadbeach was first surveyed as a township in 1934. Sand mining of the local dunes began during this period and in the 1950s Lennons Hotel was constructed in what was then a ‘desert’ of sand. The 5 storey hotel was the Gold Coast’s tallest building at the time and enjoyed a glamorous reputation, but is wasn’t until the 1970’s that development in the greater Broadbeach area really got under way.

Broadbeach is very popular with locals and holiday-makers. This is mainly due to the great combination of sunshine, golden beaches, excellent shopping and wonderful Broadbeach accommodation options. Closer to the beach you’ll find an array of holiday apartments and highrises, but on the other side of the casino and convention centre are smaller apartment buildings and some beautiful homes on the waterfront.

Broadbeach is a prominent dining precinct on the Gold Coast with a wonderful variety of restaurants presenting cuisines from all around the globe and all budgets. The bar scene is also on the way up with many boutique bars and fashionable nightclubs.

Broadbeach is the Gold Coast’s shopping mecca. From the department stores, designer labels, major chains and speciality stores located at Pacific Fair and the Oasis to the boutiques under the Phoenician, Oracle and the new Aria Building you’ll find something for every occasion. There’s also the Art & Craft Markets each week.

Broadbeach Waters

While Broadbeach real estate is characterised by high-rise towers and smaller apartment buildings with very few individual houses, Broadbeach Waters is generally comprised of renovated canal-front homes and newer executive dwellings created through demolishing and rebuilding. Pick almost any waterfront street in Broadbeach Waters and there will be renovation or redevelopment underway, from family homes to multimillion-dollar mansions.

Apart from grand homes on the banks of the Nerang River, Broadbeach Waters incorporates several canal estates established from the 1960s to the 1980s, including Miami Keys, Florida Gardens, Rio Vista and Cypress Gardens, all named by developers for marketing purposes. While not suburbs in their own right, these area names are familiar to long-term locals who have watched Broadbeach real estate evolve from a few sparse canals adjoining Little Tallebudgera Creek and the Nerang River into one of the Gold Coast’s most in-demand property hot spots.

Escalating Values

It seems inevitable that Broadbeach real estate will continue to escalate in value due to its rarity as a central ‘in-town’ address with the enviable options of beach-view highrise apartments and private waterfront homes. Canal-front residents are only a few minutes’ drive or tram ride from all popular attractions, including Surfers Paradise, while still enjoying their own private sand beach and boat mooring with fast ocean access.
